Patagonia Chocolates is recognized by the hand-painted mural on its interior walls, which depicts the journey of the business from Argentina to Queenstown. The shop was established in two thousand five by Alex Gimenez and Lorena Giallonardo, a couple who arrived in New Zealand from Argentina and were struck by the geographic similarity between Queenstown and their homeland. They found the local offerings lacking a traditional chocolate shop, leading them to open their first small space in an Arrowtown alleyway.
