The Golden Acre is a large shopping complex on the corner of Adderley and Strand Streets, easily recognized by its massive glass-heavy, twenty-eight-story tower that looms over the downtown transit hub. Constructed in nineteen seventy-nine on the site of Cape Town’s original train station, the building was designed by architect Louis Karol to serve as a central connection for commuters traveling between the city center and the railway, bus, and taxi systems.
