Namaqua House on Greenmarket Square is an eight-story building defined by its cantilevered balcony and a reinforced concrete skeleton faced with brick. Completed in the early nineteen-thirties, the structure was designed to provide modern office space in the center of the city. The exterior features teak joinery and a massive architrave above the ground and first-floor windows, a detail added to visually lighten the weight of the masonry supported above the shopfronts.
