Hwangnamppang is a small, golden-brown pastry filled with a dense, smooth red bean paste that has defined the food identity of Gyeongju since the nineteen thirties. You can identify the bakeries by the faint, warm scent of baked dough and caramelized sugar that drifts along the streets of the Hwangnam-dong neighborhood.
