The Gyeongju Choe Family House features a low main gate leading into a compound that was once the wealthiest residence in the city. Construction of the estate began around seventeen hundred, establishing the home for a clan that maintained its influence over twelve generations. While many grand houses of the Joseon Dynasty exist primarily to demonstrate wealth, this home is defined by a history of social responsibility, centered on a family principle to ensure that no one within a twenty-five-mile radius went hungry.
