Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond

historic

Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond are defined by the sharp, winding curves of the pond's northern and eastern banks, which ensure the entire water surface cannot be seen from any single vantage point. This artificial pond, originally constructed by order of King Munmu in six hundred seventy-four, served as the heart of a secondary palace complex for the Silla Kingdom. The site functioned as a grand venue for royal banquets and a residence for the crown prince.
