Palace of Antiochos

The Palace of Antiochos reveals itself through the remains of a hexagonal hall, a rare survival from the fifth century when Constantinople was the heart of the Byzantine Empire. You can distinguish this site by the ancient, weathered masonry that sits in sharp contrast to the modern construction layered above it. Built during the reign of Emperor Theodosios the Second, this complex served as the private residence of a powerful Persian eunuch named Antiochos, who rose to become the emperor’s tutor and grand chamberlain.
