The tower of Saint John’s Church stands out with its working clock face featuring gold-colored numerals, rising alone on the east side of Scandrett Street. This structure is all that remains of an eighteenth-century parish church, which was built in seventeen fifty-six by the carpenter Joel Johnson to replace a smaller, earlier chapel.
