Hermitage Basin

Hermitage Basin is a small, calm pool of water set among modern houses, marking the westernmost point of what was once the sprawling London Docks. While the vast majority of the old dock complex was filled with concrete and redeveloped in the nineteen seventies, this basin survives as a remnant of the site's maritime past. It originally served as a vital back-door entrance for cargo ships entering the docks from the Thames, connected by a lock system that operated until nineteen oh nine.
