Thames River Police Museum

The Thames River Police Museum occupies a former carpenter’s workshop within the Wapping Police Station on Wapping High Street. This building serves as the headquarters of the Marine Policing Unit, the modern successor to a force established in seventeen ninety-eight to curb the rampant theft of cargo from ships moored in the Port of London. Recognized as the oldest continuously serving police force in the world, these officers were originally funded by the West India Committee to provide security for the valuable goods arriving from the West Indies.
