The Georgian House occupies number seven Charlotte Square, identifiable by its symmetrical, neoclassical facade that blends into the uniform stone row designed by the architect Robert Adam. Completed in seventeen ninety-six, the townhouse served as an urban residence for John Lamont, the eighteenth Chief of the Clan Lamont, who purchased the property for one thousand eight hundred pounds. It was constructed as part of Edinburgh’s New Town, a planned development intended to offer a spacious, orderly alternative to the crowded tenements of the medieval Old Town.
