The National Museum of Scotland is defined by its two contrasting buildings that stand side-by-side on Chambers Street. One is a Victorian structure featuring a grand central hall of cast iron and a Venetian Renaissance facade, while the other is a modern construction from nineteen ninety-eight finished in golden Moray sandstone. These two wings were combined in two thousand six to house a collection that ranges from prehistoric artifacts and Viking jewelry to the stuffed body of Dolly the sheep, the first mammal successfully cloned from an adult cell.
