The Covenanters' Memorial in the Grassmarket is defined by a circular stone marker set into the pavement, accompanied by a representation of a gallows' shadow rendered in different colored stone. This site marks the location where more than one hundred Scottish Presbyterians were executed between sixteen sixty-one and sixteen eighty-eight, a period of intense religious and civil conflict known as the Killing Time.
