Assembly Rooms

The Assembly Rooms on George Street are identifiable by their grand, classical portico, which features towering columns that project outward toward the street. Built in the seventeen eighties to serve the social life of Edinburgh's expanding New Town, the building was designed by architect John Henderson following a public competition. Construction was funded through public subscription, reflecting the civic ambition of the era.
