Calton Hill rises abruptly from the eastern end of Princes Street, distinguished by a collection of unfinished and neoclassical monuments that crown its summit. Standing one hundred and three meters above sea level, the hill serves as a prominent vantage point for panoramic views of the city skyline, the Firth of Forth, and the surrounding landscape. Its rocky slopes have hosted a leper colony, a jousting ground, and a place of public execution over the centuries.
