Bow Well

The Bow Well is a square, stone-built fountain standing at the junction where the Grassmarket meets the foot of the West Bow. Constructed in sixteen seventy-four, this structure features a pyramid-shaped roof and served as the first piped water source for the residents of the Grassmarket. It drew its supply from a reservoir at Castle Hill, which was fed by springs from the Pentland Hills.
