The White Hart Inn

The White Hart Inn sits in the Grassmarket, distinguished by its low, beamed interior and a history that stretches back half a millennium. While the current structure dates to seventeen forty, the cellarage beneath the building originates from fifteen sixteen, marking the site as one of the oldest in Edinburgh. The inn takes its name from a legend involving King David the First, who reportedly survived a charging white stag in eleven twenty-eight after a flaming cross appeared between the animal's antlers.
