South West Cumberland Street Lane is defined by its series of mews buildings that sit behind the grand Georgian terraces of Great King Street. While the main streets of the New Town were designed by architects Robert Reid and William Sibbald between eighteen fourteen and eighteen twenty-three, this narrow, cobbled lane was intended to serve as the service access for those larger houses.
