The Alcazar Theatre opened on O'Farrell Street in December nineteen eleven, establishing itself as a prominent home for legitimate stage productions and a dedicated resident stock company. Designed by architects Cunningham and Politeo, this eleven-hundred-forty-five-seat venue replaced an earlier theater that had been destroyed in the nineteen oh six earthquake and fire.
