The Chancellor Hotel on Union Square rises at four hundred thirty-three Powell Street, identifiable by its proximity to the Powell Street cable car line. When it opened for business in nineteen fourteen, it held the title of the tallest hotel building in San Francisco. Its construction was timed to accommodate the influx of visitors expected for the nineteen fifteen Panama-Pacific International Exposition.
