The San Francisco Playhouse occupies a second-floor auditorium inside the Kensington Park Hotel at four hundred fifty Post Street. The fifteen-story building itself was completed in nineteen twenty-five in a Spanish Gothic style, designed by architects Frederick Meyer and Albin Johnson. Its facade, clad in terra cotta, originally served as a lodge for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, featuring a grand ballroom and expansive meeting halls.
