St. John's, Lafayette Square

St. John’s, Lafayette Square, is distinguished by its pale, stucco-covered brick exterior and a prominent bell tower. Designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, who also worked on the U.S. Capitol, the church was built in the form of a Greek cross and opened in eighteen sixteen. It sits just one block from the White House, a location that has defined its history since the early nineteenth century.
