Bar 35 is identified by its exposed red brick walls and a bamboo-shaded outdoor patio, tucked behind a nondescript facade on North Hotel Street. Opened in two thousand five by Dave Stewart, the venue occupied the former site of a business known as the Swing Club. At the time, the surrounding area in downtown Honolulu was largely avoided by locals and visitors alike, characterized by dark, quiet sidewalks and boarded-up storefronts.
