Hanks Cafe Honolulu

Hanks Cafe Honolulu is a small, narrow pub on Nuuanu Avenue characterized by its walls crowded with large, colorful oil paintings. Founded in nineteen ninety-eight by artist Hank Taufaasau, the space was originally intended to serve as a gallery for his own work. He chose this specific location in Chinatown when the area was largely overlooked, moving from a Waikiki gallery to escape high rent and embrace the neighborhood's artistic potential before it saw wider revitalization.
