Kuan Yin Temple 觀音廟

religious

The Kuan Yin Temple features a green ceramic-tile roof and bright red columns, maintaining a traditional Chinese aesthetic in the city center. The site has honored Kuan Yin, the Chinese goddess of compassion and mercy, since the eighteen eighties, when it provided a spiritual space for immigrant laborers arriving to work on sugar plantations. While the temple has occupied its current address on Vineyard Boulevard since nineteen twenty-one, the structure was rebuilt in nineteen sixty-one.
