Mergenthaler Linotype Building

The Mergenthaler Linotype Building, located at five hundred thirty-one South Plymouth Court, is defined by its massive, light-filled windows and heavy masonry walls designed to support the weight of industrial printing machinery. Built in nineteen seventeen, this structure once served the printing industry that fueled Chicago’s economy in the early twentieth century. It was created at a time when this neighborhood, known as Printer's Row, was the concentrated hub of Midwestern publishing and typesetting.
