Chicago Cultural Center

The Chicago Cultural Center is distinguished by two massive, intricate stained-glass domes that crown the building, including a thirty-eight-foot Tiffany glass dome on the south side composed of thirty thousand pieces of glass. Completed in eighteen ninety-seven, the structure served as the city’s first central public library and as a memorial headquarters for the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization for Civil War Union veterans.
