Tribune Tower

The Tribune Tower is identified by its soaring, neo-Gothic limestone facade and a crown that mimics the butter tower of the Rouen Cathedral in France. Completed in nineteen twenty-five, the structure was the winner of an international competition held to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Chicago Tribune. Newspaper publishers Robert R. McCormick and Joseph Patterson sought to create the most beautiful office building in the world, leading architects John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood to design a tower defined by its flying buttresses and ornate, medieval-inspired detail.
