Marshall Field and Company Building

The Marshall Field and Company Building occupies an entire city block in the Loop, recognizable by the massive seven-and-a-half-ton clocks that anchor its corners at State and Washington and State and Randolph. Designed in stages by Daniel Burnham and his firm between eighteen ninety-two and nineteen fourteen, the building rose to serve as the flagship for a retail enterprise that fundamentally changed how Americans shopped.
