Smith Court Residences

The Smith Court Residences are a collection of historic homes on a narrow, dead-end street that served as the center of Boston’s African American community during the nineteenth century. The site includes buildings like the thin, yellow-sided house at three Smith Court, which retains some of its original wooden construction from the years between seventeen ninety-eight and eighteen hundred. These homes stand directly opposite the African Meeting House and the Abiel Smith School, forming a cluster of sites that mark the local struggle for justice and equality.
