The Make Way for Ducklings sculpture consists of nine bronze figures—a mother duck and her eight ducklings—arranged in a line across old Boston cobblestones. The piece spans thirty-five feet, with the mother, Mrs. Mallard, standing thirty-eight inches tall. It is based on Robert McCloskey’s nineteen forty-one children’s book of the same name, which tells the story of a mallard family navigating the city to find a safe home in the Public Garden.
