The Youth’s Companion Building is marked by a massive, two-story round arch that defines its entrance on Columbus Avenue. Built in eighteen ninety-two, the five-story structure of brown sandstone and brick was commissioned by Daniel Ford to house the headquarters of his popular weekly magazine, The Youth’s Companion. Architects Henry Hartwell and William Cummings Richardson designed the workspace for maximum efficiency, incorporating large windows and skylights to fill the editorial and printing rooms with natural light.
