The giant metal praying mantis stands guard at the entrance to the Downtown Container Park. Rising fifty-five feet into the air, this sculpture is a one-hundred-and-fifty-times scale replica of a female praying mantis. It is built from steel, weighs twenty-two thousand pounds, and is mounted atop a nineteen eighty-three GMC dump truck. After dark, the creature frequently awakens with a drum circle, shooting flames from its antennae that can reach six stories high.
