Colman Dock extends into Elliott Bay as a expansive, modern multimodal terminal. Scottish engineer James Colman first built a wharf on this site in eighteen eighty-two to serve coal bunkers, but the Great Seattle Fire of eighteen eighty-nine leveled the structure. It was rebuilt and eventually became the central landing for the Mosquito Fleet, a collection of small steamers that carried passengers and freight across Puget Sound.
