The Chinatown-International District is marked by the presence of historic brick buildings and elaborate balconies that stand atop land once formed by massive regrading projects. This neighborhood, a central hub for Seattle's Asian American communities, encompasses the distinct areas of Chinatown, Japantown, and Little Saigon. It was created after early Chinese, Japanese, and Filipino immigrants were forced to relocate from other parts of the city during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
