The Nippon Kan Theatre is marked by its exterior painted in black and red, colors chosen for their cultural significance in Japan. Built in nineteen oh nine, the building sits in what was once the center of Seattle's Japantown. It was commissioned by local businessmen to serve as a hub for new immigrants, providing a meeting hall, a dormitory, and a stage for traditional performances.
