SOIL is a nonprofit cooperative gallery found on the ground floor of the Tashiro Kaplan Building at one hundred twelve Third Avenue South. Since its founding in nineteen ninety-five, the gallery has operated as a volunteer-run space for local artists to exhibit challenging or experimental work. It occupies a role as an alternative venue, inviting members to curate monthly exhibitions that feature everything from traditional paintings to performance art, sound installations, and even experiments using chocolate or plaster.
