Salzbergstraße

Salzbergstraße is the approach road to the Salzbergbahn funicular station, the gateway for ascending the mountain that has sustained this village for seven thousand years. While the narrow streets of Hallstatt cling to the lake shore, this road climbs toward the high valley where, as early as five thousand before the common era, miners first began extracting salt from deep within the mountain.
