Hallstatt Charnel House

The Hallstatt Charnel House, or Beinhaus, is a small ossuary situated within the crypt of the twelfth-century Saint Michael’s Chapel, right beside the parish church. It holds one of the largest collections of painted skulls in Europe, with over six hundred of its twelve hundred crania decorated with delicate, hand-painted symbols.
