The Hallstätter Wasserfall is characterized by a series of cascades that plunge over rocky cliffs directly above the village of Hallstatt. The water originates from the Mühlbach stream, which descends from the Salzberg mountain that towers behind the town's compact, stepped architecture. Because space in the valley is limited, these waters have always been a central feature of the landscape, visible from the village streets, the museum area, and the paths leading toward the historical salt mines.
