Kirchenweg

Kirchenweg is the address of the Catholic Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary, a building distinguished by its position on a rocky promontory high above the village of Hallstatt. This site has supported a church since around eleven eighty-one, with the heavy stone tower dating back to the twelfth century. Later, in the late Gothic period, builders constructed the current main sanctuary directly over the steep, sloping cliffside, completing the work by fifteen hundred and five.
