Manneken Pis

monument

Manneken Pis is a bronze statue, barely over fifty-five centimeters tall, depicting a naked young boy urinating into a fountain basin. You can identify the spot by the small, ornate blue stone niche that houses the figure on the corner of Rue de l'Étuve and Rue du Chêne. While the current statue was created by the Brussels sculptor Jérôme Duquesnoy the Elder in sixteen nineteen, the site itself has served as a public water distribution point since at least the late fourteenth century.
