Place Royale is a rectangular, symmetrical square in central Brussels marked by its uniform, neoclassical architecture and eight corner pavilions. Built between seventeen seventy-five and seventeen eighty-two, the site sits directly above the buried ruins of the medieval Coudenberg Palace, which had served as a seat of power for centuries until a devastating fire in seventeen thirty-one.
