Parc de la Tête d'Or

park garden

The Parc de la Tête d'Or stretches across one hundred seventeen hectares, defined by a large lake and expansive green spaces that contrast with the dense urban fabric of Lyon. Prefect Claude-Marius Vaïsse commissioned the project in eighteen fifty-six to provide nature to the city’s inhabitants, tasking landscape architects Denis and Eugène Bühler with transforming what was then a marshy, flood-prone agricultural estate. The park opened to the public in eighteen fifty-seven, featuring a dam to hold back the Rhône river.
