Place Colbert is a public square defined by its sloped terrain, stone steps, and shade from large plane trees. It sits on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse district in the first arrondissement of Lyon. The square was created in the former Clos Casati and received its name following a municipal council decision on June eighteenth, eighteen twenty-nine. It honors Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the seventeenth-century minister of finance who helped shape the local silk industry.
