The Maison du Chamarier, located at thirty-seven rue Saint-Jean, is identifiable by its transition between flamboyant Gothic and early Renaissance styles. Built upon ruins dating to the thirteenth century, the house was extensively redesigned between fourteen ninety-six and fifteen sixteen for François d’Estaing, a high-ranking dignitary of the Saint-Jean chapter. The title of Chamarier designated a powerful administrator who managed the finances of the bishop and held the keys to the city’s six fortification gates.
