The Hôtel-Dieu de Lyon stretches for three hundred seventy-five meters along the banks of the Rhône River, defined by a long, monumental neoclassical façade topped by a grand central dome. Founded in the twelfth century as a refuge for pilgrims and the poor, this site functioned as the primary hospital for Lyon for eight centuries.
