The Lugdunum museum on the slopes of Fourvière Hill is designed to disappear. Architect Bernard Zehrfuss built this concrete structure directly into the hillside, burying it so deeply that it remains nearly invisible from the outside. Only two large, square bay windows cut into the greenery reveal the building’s presence to those standing near the ancient Roman theater and odeon outside.
