The Place du Gouvernement is a paved, rectangular pedestrian square tucked into the Saint-Jean neighborhood of Vieux Lyon. It is defined by its history as the residential and administrative heart for the governors of the Lyonnais, Forez, and Beaujolais provinces, who maintained a private hôtel facing the square until the nineteenth century.
