The Escalier Mermet is a public passage in the Croix-Rousse slopes district that functions as a steep, narrow connection between Rue René-Leynaud and Rue Burdeau. You can identify the path by its arched entrance on Rue René-Leynaud, which leads into a series of stone steps climbing the hillside. It is named for Doctor Joseph Mermet, a nineteenth-century city councilor whose property originally granted access to this shortcut.
